CHEMICAL PEEL

In all my years of performing facial treatments and offering skincare advice, I can't tell you how many clients lie on the couch in front of me and say "just make me look 10 years younger...please!!".

I have always wanted to find a magic potion that I can offer my clients in order to take away the imperfections they can no longer reverse. After all, with skincare, prevention truly is easier than cure. But - when we are all in our teens and tweens, investing in skincare doesn't seem like such an important affair (IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT FYI!!) and this is why I was so over joyed when we came across chemical peels.

SO, WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Chemical peels are able to help treat concerns such as pigmentation, acne, and aging skin, by increasing cell turnover and bringing newer skin cells to the surface. Applying chemical peels to your face allows professionals to provide your skin with the necessary actives that your skin requires to leave it feeling and looking youthful and smooth.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHEMICAL PEEL, AND IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?

Chemical peels are classified as light (superficial), medium, or deep, depending on the depth of penetration of the ingredients used. Light peels exfoliate to various levels of the epidermis. Medium-depth peels treat through the papillary dermis and deep peels to the mid-reticular dermis. Deeper peels require more downtime and increase the chance of side effects, which include photosensitivity, pigment changes and scarring.

  • Peel treatments improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.

  • Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, décolleté, back and hands.

  • The skin is initially tender and more sun-sensitive as the epidermis renews itself. After the peeling takes its course (usually 3-5 days after treatment), fresh new skin emerges and ingredients in homecare products start to work more effectively.

  • Post-treatment peeling is often similar to peeling after a tan. In some cases, exfoliation occurs on a cellular level and is not apparent to the naked eye. The exfoliation you will experience varies depending on skin profile.
